As specialists in reupholstery, we often get asked for our best re-upholstery tips – those things we have learned, the facts we always use to help with every project. To help you assess your next upholstery decision, here are a few of our top tips.
First thing to consider is whether the piece is worth reupholstering. There’s no right or wrong answer to this question, more about whether you love the piece enough to spend money to renew it.
Another consideration is what look you want and if this matches with the style of the furniture. For example, a really modern print fabric might not work on an antique style of furniture. It might be worth getting something new for this and relocating the antique piece to another room.
While you can DIY some reupholstery projects, it is often best to get experts to handle it for you. That’s because every material reacts differently and can be trickier than you would image to get to behave. Experts will have the right tools to handle the job, regardless of how difficult the material you have chosen can be.
Finally, when you are considering reupholstering something, remember that there may be more costs than just the fabric and time for the work. Often there may be structural elements that need to be repaired or replacing and other work doing to ensure the furniture lasts the longest time with its new covering.
