When you are setting up or refurbishing a restaurant, the upholstery and furniture you choose play a big part in the look and feel of the place. It is more than just somewhere for people to sit while eating – it is part of the aesthetic of the restaurant and the mood it creates.
One of the top tips when looking at upholstery is to choose something that fits the furniture if you are choosing it separately. And both the upholstery and furniture should choose the type of food that you serve. That doesn’t mean it needs to be a certain colour or have a food pattern but more the kind of menu you have – minimalist and trendy, traditional, cosy and relaxed, a certain cuisine.
Restaurant upholstery should also be practical and functional. Some materials might look nice, but you want to opt for ones that are tough and smart, comfortable but also able to withstand the frequent use they will receive. Also, look at the style of furniture and ensure it is easy to work with, to clean and even to stack when not in use.
Don’t be afraid to have different ‘areas’ in the restaurant with different types of furniture. You could have tables for two and four in one area, lounge areas beside the bar and even booths along walls. These all offer different looks and feels and help get the right space for the customers.
